Drought in Mekong Delta worsens due to hydropower, water diversion
Since countries in the upper course of the Mekong River have diverted water, problems related to drought, saline intrusion and landslides in Mekong Delta have become worse.
The development of hydropower dams in the Mekong upper course has had an adverse impact on the Mekong Delta. The biggest problem for agricultural production is the water diversion by countries in the upper course. Hydropower plants store water in the rainy season to generate electricity in the dry season.
