Govt asks ministry to consider removing obstacles for sugar industry

The Government Office has asked the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to consider recent reports that local sugar industry could be hit hard by  commitments of the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA) which is set to take effect in early 2018. Statistics from the Sugar and Sugarcane Association showed that sugar plants produced some 10,000 tonnes sugar from October 10, plus 300,000 tonnes inventory.
