Water resouces in Vietnam - weak and lacking

Water per head in Vietnamese is 9,650 m3 / person / year, while the world average is only 7,400 m3. However, it is important to remember that 63% of Vietnam's total surface water resources are exotic water, which originates in other countries. For example, in the Red River basin, foreign water accounts for 50% of the total surface water volume. In the Mekong River Basin 90% of total surface water was of extraneous origin.

The inland water supply is only 3.600 m 3 / person / year, less than the global average of 4,000 m 3 / person / yr and this means Vietnam is facing with water shortage.
